NOTE: Due to the availability of hotel space and guest speakers, our monthly members meetings and extra meetings can take place on any day of the week. Second speaker: George Grant, CTGA member and a tour guide at the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at UBC, will talk about this vibrant museum of world arts and cultures and why it is such a popular destination for locals and world visitors. Meeting will take place at the Vancouver Library in Vancouver. Doors will open at 6:00 pm with the meeting starting at 6:30 PM. We will be serving pizza this time, as well as coffee, tea and cookies.

  • Thursday, 20 April; As you may know, we will not be getting the Tourism Challenge Passports until April 20th. Therefore, we have decided to move our members meeting to this date. The speaker for this evening is the extremely knowledgeable Vancouver expert John Atkin. Some of you have heard him speak before and therefore know that this is a presentation to look forward to!   • Thursday, 14 December; Our Christmas Dinner will be held in the Warrant’s and Sergeants Mess at The Beatty Street Drill Hall on Thursday December 14th at 6:00pm. The price will be $35 for members and $45 for spouses/guests providing you book and pay at our November meeting or before. If you sign up after our meeting, the price is $40 for members and $50 for spouses/guests.

    Tickets for the Christmas Dinner are non refundable!

    Price for CGTA members and one significant other will be $35.00 before and by the November 10th meeting. The CTGA will cover all other costs i.e. tax, tipping and bartender.

    After November 10th but before Dec 2nd price will be $45.00.

    All sales final and non refundable.

    There will be a Shuttle Bus running from Parkgate Community Center at the bottom of Seymour.

    Details as to other winter activities, the shuttle schedule will be provided closer to the date, depending of Ski Resorts opening day (planned is Dec. 2nd)

    FAM Trip for April 25th. All members who have signed up, please bring cash, cheque or CC to confirm your space for April 25th. The cost is $45 for members and $50 or $55 for guests (to be confirmed on Thursday). We have confirmed a coach for a 2nd FAM trip for Saturday May 23rd. Bring your ideas of where to go for this FAM Trip to the meeting.
  • Sunday, 12 April & Monday, 13 April; Vancouver City Tour Training for new or existing guides. Each lecture will take about 4 to 4.5 hours and begin at 4 pm. The first lecture will be in a classroom setting in Vancouver's False Creek South. The second lecture will be held in a van or a mini-bus which will start off in downtown Vancouver.

    Participants who confirm they wish to attend will be given further meeting details. You may indeed record one or both sessions, or otherwise bring pen & paper. There will also be a few handouts, but you'll be asked to make some of your own notes.

    Anyone may attend - whether or not they are Members of the Canadian Tour Guide Association of BC. This program is a product of Jeff V and not the CTGA of BC.

    The cost will be $45 dollars per lecture [$90 total - including the cost of the van or bus]. You may take one or both classes. Both are recommended, especially the first session. Payment can be made on the day of each lecture. Please reply ASAP to info@ctgaofbc.com if you are interested - if later you can't attend, no problem - just let me know.

  • Sunday, 4 December; This is the date of the annual Santa Claus Parade. From Bute Street along Georgia to Burrard, then down Burrard to Cordova beginning at 1 pm. This event draws over 300,000 people so expect traffic delays throughout downtown.
  • Thursday, 15 December; The CTGA's annual Christmas Party, this year at Red Ginger at 967 West Broadway (at Oak) in Vancouver. This is a well-known Singaporean restaurant which has outstanding food and service. We will be taking over half of the restaurant at 7 pm for a sit down dinner.   • Sunday, 3 January; The Annual Brackendale / Squamish Eagle Count takes place.
  • Thursday, 14 January; Our first regular CTGA Members Meeting of the new year will take place at the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel, 550 W Hastings Street (at Seymour) Vancouver. We have arranged for a special guest speaker from the Vancouver Olympic Committee. We are also expecting someone from the City of Vancouver to speak on the road and traffic situation during the 'games.' Doors will open at 6 pm with the meeting starting at 6:30 pm. No need to rsvp. This will be our last meeting till after both sets of the Olympics.
  • Thursday Jan 21st; The new free Olympic Line Streetcar service begins until Sunday, 21 March along the south shore of False Creek from Granville Island to the 2nd and Cambie Olympic Village Canada Line Station.

This is a drop-by event, but plan to spend at least an hour. There will about 150 booths showcasing a wide variety of products and services aimed at locals and tourists alike.   • Saturday, 21 February; We will be touring the new Olympic Skating Oval in Richmond (on River Road by the Number Two Road Bridge) and the Steveston Village. A special Members Reception of light sandwiches, coffee and cake will start at 5:30 pm. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm. No need to rsvp.   • Sunday, 6 December; THe Annual Santa Claus Parade, at 1pm.
  • Monday, 7 December; Our Annual Christmas Party and dinner will be on board a Christmas Carol Ship, which will tour the local waters. Open to Members and one guest for $39 each. Please RSVP right away by contacting us.
  • Saturday, 12 December; Our Annual Christmas Lights Tour will be open to Members and guests for $10 each. Held in conjuction with the Transit Museum Society. No need to rsvp. Pick-up Locations and Times: 6 pm in the Marpole Bus Loop, Hudson and Marine Drive, Vancouver. 6:10 pm at the Marine Drive (& Cambie Street) Canada Line Station. Wait in the bus loop near the station entrance. 6:30 pm at the 29th Ave Expo Line SkyTrain Station. Look for at least two buses, one will be decorated like a 'reindeer' at the front and rear. The tour will cover some of the beautifully lit homes in Vancouver and Burnaby and will run till about 9 or 9:30 pm.

  • Saturday, 19 January; We will be holding a very special Educational Workshop in Gastown. This event is open to Members and guests and involves three or four guest speakers on a variety of guiding related topics. Speakers will be on in the morning and afternoon. There is a fee and more details are available by contacting CTGA Member Ursula W at 604-773-5221 as soon as possible.
  • Thursday, 31 January; The first CTGA Members Meeting of the new year will be at the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel on Hastings at Seymour Street in Vancouver (across from the Harbour Centre Tower). Doors will open at 6:30 pm with the meeting starting at 7 pm. No need to rsvp unless you are bringing a guest (as above). All regular end-of-the-month Members Meetings are open to Members and potential new-Members.

  • Sunday, 10 February; Chinese New Year's Parade at noon, starting at Pender and Carrall - Vancouver.
  • Thursday, 28 February; Our regular end of the month CTGA Members Meeting will take place at the Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel on Hastings at Seymour Street in Vancouver (across from the Harbour Centre Tower). From the Capilano Suspension Bridge we'll have two of their First Nations hosts as our guest speakers; Shawn Edenshaw and Peter August. Plus we'll hold our Annual "Shop and Swap."   • Sunday, 16 March; A St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place on Granville St at 11 am.

  • Tuesday 25 March; The start of the Cherry Blossom Festival; runs to April 20th.
  • Thursday, 27 March; We'll hold two events; a Members Only Walking Tour from 3 to 5 pm downtown, then our regular end of the month CTGA Members Meeting. At the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel on Hastings at Thurlow Streets in Vancouver at 6:30 pm. Several tourism related guest speakers as well as a mini "Tourism Showcase".   • Thursday, 10 April; CTGA Member Shirley H will hold an afternoon seminar on taking passengers to Alaska or the Yukon. This Members Only event will be held downtown from 1:30 to 4:30 pm.   • Sunday, 13 April; We will hold our annual About Town Tour. This Members Only event will visit Fort Langley (a National Historic Site where 150 years ago BC was declared a colony), the Maillardville Heritage Square (including the Place des Arts) in Coquitlam and Historic Irving House in New Westminster. We'll also have time for lunch and a visit to the charming Fort Langley village as well. The cost will be $20 and the event will run from approx. 9 am to 4 pm.   • Sunday, 20 April; The Vancouver Sun Run will take place - expect traffic delays.
  • Thursday, 24 April; All 'guides' (local, driver-guides, long-distance plus meet and greeters) are once again invited to attend the Annual Capilano Suspension Bridge's Tour Guide Appreciation Day Breakfast. From 7:30 to 10 am rain or shine. This year: "Come for the Mini Golf, Enjoy the Mimosas, Stay for Breakfast, Take home some Prizes. Prizes for remarkable golf attire." Sounds like fun! Please RSVP by Friday April 18th. Just after the Capilano Breakfast, we'll take in a show at the IMAX Theatre at Canada Place. Meet us just before Noon or 1 pm (both shows are the same). Our very special guest speaker will be Gordon Price , former Vancouver City Councilor and Metro Vancouver expert. Two other speakers will also talk with us.   • Monday, 12 May; The annual Tourism Vancouver Showcase at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver will take place from 12:30 to 4:30 pm. Open to anyone in the tourism / service profession; there is no charge and no need to rsvp. This large trade show is well attended; plan to spend at least an hour.
  • Monday, 19 May; Victoria Day.
  • Thursday, 22 May; A special DVD / film is being released by the Vancouver Historical Society at their regular monthly meeting. 7:30 pm at the HR MacMillan Space Centre / Planetarium. No entry fee and no need to RSVP, open to one and all. In 1907 a filmmaker took moving pictures of downtown Vancouver and the West End; in 2007 a side-by-side remake was taken - the results are remarkable and well worth seeing!!! Don't miss "City Reflections 1907 - Vancouver - 2007."

  • Saturday, 13 December; We'll do the annual CTGA Christmas Lights Tour , once again with the folks from the Transit Museum Society (Vancouver). Open to Members and guests for $10 per-person. This year we'll see many of the wonderfully lit and large homes in Surrey! Two pick-up locations and times: 6 pm from the Marpole Bus Loop at Oak (Hudson St) and Marine Drive in Vancouver, or at 6:30 pm from the Scott Road SkyTrain Station. A stop for festive snacks will also be made.
  • Sunday, 21 December; Peter and Bruno Wall and others have decided to hold the First Annual Celebration of Hospitality, Tourism and the Arts. It will take place at the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre on Burrard Street from 4 pm to 10 pm (a drop-by event). There will be food and entertainment compliments of the hotel.
